Baby Doll Adoption Experience

One of my favorite memories from my childhood was when my mother took me into Manhattan to watch a cabbage patch doll hatch and then take that doll home. 

I shared this day with my mother adding a little more magic to that. I must have been 5 or 6 years old and still at over 40 years old I remember and hold this memory dear.

This memory is so special to me that I decided to find a similar experience for my daughter.  Cabbage Patch kids are a thing of the past and there are no longer any establishments hatching those dolls.  So I went on Google and did some research.

What I found was a baby doll adoption experience.  These establishments set up a nursery filled with various baby dolls for a lucky little girl to select for adoption.  Your little girl goes home with her newly adopted baby doll, nursery clothes, birth certificate and swaddle blanket.

The experience includes selecting a doll, the doll receiving its first checkup, ear piercing, and a promise to care for your new baby doll.

My daughter named her baby doll Olivia.  It took me a few minutes to realize my daughter had selected that name because she has a friend a few years older than her with that name.  My daughter also selected a doll with dark brown hair.  While I would like to think she selected that hair color because her mother’s hair is also brown it is more likely that she was emulating the hair color of her friend Olivia.

After realizing why my daughter had selected that name for her new baby doll another childhood memory of mine surfaced.  My cousin had a baby doll that she treasured dearly.  That baby doll’s name was Cynthea.

I am so happy I was able to give my child that experience and hope that she will remember that day well into adulthood just as I did with the Cabbage Patch Doll.
