Create Your Legacy Challenge

Few people would disagree that leaving a mark on this world is something many strive for.  Making some sort of mark on this world gives our lives meaning.  That doesn’t mean the impact has to be a huge gesture.  One small act can have a huge ripple effect and touch or even change the lives of many.

Our own history and our life stories are treasures.  One that should be passed down from generation to generation.  It is a unique, special and irreplaceable gift.  If you have children, I am sure you’ve received an eye roll any time you tried to share a memory from your childhood or some life lesson.  I know I sure have.  Despite the eye rolls I still tell the stories.

I do have this one tradition that never gets an eye roll.  Every year on each childs birthday I share the story of the day they were born.  They all still enjoy listening to the story, although my younger ones much more than my 14 year old.

As a parent, I treasure the stories my grandparents tell me.  I wish I could have recorded my grandfather telling his stories.  There is something about an old-world story being told in a heavy Italian accent that makes the story that more special.  My grandfather has been gone for some time, but his stories and his strong Italian accent remain in my mind as treasured memories.

Todays technology makes preserving family stories and values so much easier than in the past.  Laptops often come with built in cameras, smart phones have recording capabilities and recording devices are much more affordable.  It really is as simple as turning the camera on your smart phone and start recording.

I’ve decided to start “Create Your Legacy Challenge” each week I’ll answer one question about my life.  I’m going to write it down in a journal and record a video for some special memories that come up along the way.  I invite you to take this journey with me.
